Meet Abenezer

My name is Abenezer aka Coach Abe. I’m an ACE (American Council on Exercise) certified Personal Trainer and Nutrition Specialist. I moved to Vancouver, Canada from my home country, Ethiopia in 2014 to earn my Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
Yep, you read that right. I pivoted from my “first love” engineering to fitness later on.
Let’s rewind back to 8 years ago…

Prior to February 2017, I was underweight - weighed only 125 lbs. I remember my friend, Johnston, dragging me to the gym 2-3 times a week. I hated the first few weeks because it was completely new to me and had no clue what to do. Prior to that, the most strengthening I had done was 20-30 pushups once in a while.
I remember almost every time we went to the gym, we would just do upper body workouts i.e bench press, bicep curls, and skull crushers. Little did I know that it was an inefficient way of training. On top of that, my irregular eating habits and lack of nutrition knowledge slowed down my muscular growth.
A few months in, I decided to do my own research into science-based ways of training and discovered that I needed to diversify my workouts and incorporate more compound exercises such as deadlifts, squats, overhead presses, and rows to gain more size.
I slowly introduced those movements into my workouts and a few months later, I started to see significant progress. In just my first year of training, I managed to put on 11 lbs of weight and muscle mass.
I kept on implementing what I learned and through trial and error, I managed to put on an additional 19 lbs of weight, mostly muscle a year later. That’s when I realized how important proper exercise form, technique, workout plan, nutrition, and sleep were.
